For years I suffered in silence with anxiety, PMS, digestive issues and the inability to fall asleep. Blindly and without much thought I popped synthetic pills like candy to help me get through my pain and discomfort.
I remember a few years ago, I heard someone talking about essential oils and how they used them instead of medicine. I must admit, I was kinda sceptical. I thought, “Why would someone choose to suffer when they could just take a pill and feel better?” and I wondered, “Do essential oils really work?”
I went to see my doctor for my routine physical and I was feeling tired and in a rut. She quickly prescribed me a pill called Clonazepam. I’m embarrassed to admit it now, but I really had no idea what it was for and I was 1000% going to take it without question. A random pharmacist (aka my guardian angel) stopped me and warned me of its strength and that it can be highly addictive. I went home feeling uneasy and felt the need to research this drug further. When I finally scrolled through the 2 pages of sides effects, one being suicidal thoughts, I decided to throw the prescription out. I felt like I dodged a major bullet that day.
This woke me up. Big time. I decided from that day forward to pay more attention to what I was taking and to look for a safer, more natural, non-addictive approach to my health and well-being.
A few weeks later I was at my sister- in- laws house and wasn’t feeling well. My head was pounding and I asked her for some water so I could take my usual pain medication. She pulled out some peppermint essential oil and asked if I would be open to putting some on my temples.
“Peppermint? Why would I use something like that?”
My sister-in-law laughed and told me how essential oils have many therapeutic benefits to them. Reluctantly, I rubbed the peppermint on my temples, and MY. MIND. WAS. BLOWN. Within a few seconds, I started to feel relief. After a few minutes, my head tension was TOTALLY gone!
Now I was intrigued and I asked her a ton of questions about which oils to use for sleep, pms and cramps, supporting an upset stomach to reducing anxious feelings. She sent me home with a few samples to try and my life has been forever changed.
These oils worked so quickly and were so effective in making me feel better, I was excited to use them on my son and husband when they didn’t feel well. Within minutes of applying these oils on my son, he also felt quick relief. As a mom, it felt so empowering to be able to help my son in a safe, natural and effective way.
You might be wondering… how do you use essential oils and what do you use them for?
Now, I’m going to be honest. At first I felt a bit intimidated and wasn’t sure what oil to use for what. But for the past year and a half, I have immersed myself in learning about these amazing essential oils and have made it my mission to educate as many people as I can about the benefits of these gifts from the earth.
Essential oils are natural aromatic compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers and other parts of plants and they protect the plant from bacteria, fungus, insect attack and decay.
Essential oils support sleep and relaxation, mood management, respiratory health, joint and muscles, focus and mental clarity, effective digestion, immune function, addressing seasonal threats, clear health skin and so much more.
The truth is we are all reaching for something to relieve our discomfort or pain. Whether it’s emotional or physical. I believe we owe it to ourselves and our families to choose something that will support our bodies in a safe and natural way.
